CANADA - WRECK MAIL: Long cover damaged by sea water with stamps floated off carried on the 'S.S. Eros' from Canada to France with MONTREAL cds dated MAY 29 1940. The Eros was torpedoed by the German Submarine U-48 off the west coast of Ireland with 'SALVED FROM THE SEA' handstamps on front & reverse, boxed 'NO SERVICE RETURN TO SENDER' on front and two line 'Stamp Off Timbre Detache' marking where stamps would have been.
