Incoming cover from Cape of Good Hope franked with 1893 ½d green and 1900 pair 1d carmine (SG 61 & 69) tied by fine PEARSTON cds's dated JUN 6 1902. Censored in South Africa with printed black on white 'E. R. OPENED UNDER MARSHAL LAW' censor strip on reverse tied by triangular 'PASSED PRESS CENSOR PEARSTON' censor mark in purple. Endorsed 'Colonial' on front and addressed to 'Legrangie Johan Botha, Prisoner of War, Hawkins Island, Bermuda' with HAMILTON arrival cds on reverse. Le Grange Johan Botha was aged 19 when he was captured at Adamskraal in 1901 and sent to the Hawkins Island POW camp in Bermuda. Very fine & scarce.
