Airmail cover franked with single 1929 10c brown AIR issue (SG 460) tied by LATACUNGA cds dated AUG 19 1932. Flown on the Latacunga - Manta Military first flight by the airplane 'Ecuador' which crashed on route in Mombrillo killing the pilot 'Captain Cesar Borja'. The cover was registered in MANTA for onward transmission with boxed MANTA registration marking dated AUG 22 1932 on front and has an illustrated 'Crashed Plane' cachet applied in memory of Captain Borja and his crew plus an explanatory cachet signed by the postmaster at Guayaquil all on front. Addressed to GUAYAQUIL with eventual arrival cds dated AUG 25 1932 on reverse. A full page of 'The Universal' Ecuadorian newspaper dated 21 August 1932 accompanies with a full news story on the crash with photos of the Captain & crew. A rare crash cover. (Nierinck #320819)
