3c blue on buff 'Seebeck' postal stationery card (H&G 21) date lined on reverse 'Corn Island Nicaragua Nov 18 1893' with message written by the US Consular Agent reading 'Gents. Please send one catalogue of general hardware also of guns & revolvers with wholesale price list, very truly yours L. E. Aldrich U.S. Consular Agt.' The card is cancelled with BLUEFIELDS SUR duplex cds dated DIC 9 1893 showing a 21 day transit/sailing time between leaving the island and being put into the mails at Bluefields. The card is addressed to 'Burdette & Williams Hard Ware Dealer, Boston, Mass' with various transit and arrival marks. The card was written a year after the failed attempt to build a Nicaraguan interocean canal where Corn Island was to be used at a coaling station. A very rare item, pictured and described in an article from the October 2010 issue of Nicaro, the Journal of the Nicaraguan Study group, the article accompanies. Some creasing.
